Founded in 1970 the National Black MBA Association is one of the leading organizations for African Americans professionals who have earned a MBA degree. The organization works with more than 100 businesses and organizations in support of its membership.

The Association’s 44 chapters are located throughout the United States in locations like Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Memphis, Tennessee; Nashville, Tennessee; Dayton, Ohio; Portland, Oregon; Dallas, Texas; Houston, Texas; Richmond, Virginia and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Graduates and students currently seeking their MBA can attend local chapter networking events like the Chicago executive information sessions. The sessions run for approximately two hours. A question and answer panel with local executives, cocktails and light refreshments are served at the sessions. Registration is free to students and graduates.

National Black MBA Association Career Programs

The National Black MBA Association holds career development programs throughout the year. Their Career Success Network allows members to receive feedback on their current skill set. There is also the opportunity to meet business leaders who are seeking qualified employees. Members can post their resume on the organization’s Employment Network, a site that post jobs from more than 500 companies. The Association’s Ntential program pairs members up with experienced coaches who work with them to help them clarify their business vision and reach their stated goals.

If you are a business owner with an MBA the Association’s Entrepreneurial Networking Site might benefit you. You can upload your profile at the site and network online with other MBA professionals. This can be a great way to find business leads, gain clients and build quality business contacts.

Annual National Black MBA Association Conference

Each year the Association holds an annual conference.  The 2011 conference is scheduled to be held in Atlanta, Georgia between October 4 and 11. The non-profit organization has approximately 8,000 members and is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. Full memberships for domestic alumni cost $125 a year. Domestic students pay $60 annually for a membership to the organization. International MBA students and graduates pay $50 for a one-year membership. A lifetime membership cost $1000. As with any organization, to get the most out of a membership, members are encouraged to actively participate in conferences, training seminars and networking events.

Professionals who join the organization have the opportunity to take on leadership positions within the Association. They can also serve their communities and other business owners by advocating for tax relief, increased job opportunities for diverse candidates and training and educational programs for youth.

Their efforts will be appreciated for as the Association states as its official website, “The organization gains its strength from a strong belief in community and a commitment to its development through economic and educational development initiatives that support the global African American community.”
