Facebook reports that they have more than 750 million active users.  Worldwide Facebook account owners spend about 700 billion minutes a month at the social network.  Add in the fact that the “average user has 130 friends” and you can see the potential to connect with global consumers.  Furthermore, Business Insider reports that Twitter, another social network leader, has 175 million registered users.  MySpace, which once had approximately 100 million accounts (thousands of musicians gained a national audience using MySpace), now has about 44 million users.  Clearly, as a creative business leader, the social network numbers and what they could mean to your sales are worth exploring.

Active Creative Business Social Network Accounts

Recently, I heard that the Internet is changing rapidly, so you have to have an appetite for change as a creative business leader to survive – and thrive – on the Internet.  ‘Tis true.  It’s also likely true that merely having an account at leading social networking sites isn’t enough to cause potential customers to remember your name, let alone the names of just one of the products and/or services you offer.  It’s also true that simply promoting your products will likely not get you the sales results you want.  After all, the words social network implies an effort to build and enhance relationships with others.  Facebook even has advertising options at their site that you and other creative business leaders can take advantage of.

However, remaining active at social networks can be time consuming.  Fortunately, tools exist that can cut down on the amount of time you spend remaining “truly active” at social networks.  One of these tools is Buffer.  With a free account, Buffer who automatically posts up to 10 messages for you from your Twitter or Facebook account.  You’ll have to give Buffer access to your Twitter and/or Facebook accounts, but that’s about it.  A good thing about Buffer is that it allows you to schedule when you want posts to show up at your Twitter and Facebook accounts, a feature that can help get you in front of more users as some Twitter and Facebook users sign in during the day while others don’t log on until late at night, when you might be resting in bed.

More Social Content Leg Room for Creative Business Owners

Reddit and Digg allow you to get leverage for blog content and online articles that you write.  Similar to Buffer, it’s free to open an account at Reddit and Digg.  Just make sure that you post relevant links and content at the sites (including lots of links to valuable content you didn’t blog).  Visitors may come to value information you share with them, and, over time, you can build a following.

Although it’s newer to the social network scene, Google Plus is another social networking tool you can use as a creative business leader.  It’s free to sign up for Google Plus.  To build relationships at Google Plus, you’ll create social circles.  You can identify people in your social circles by family, friends and acquaintances.  In addition to uploading pictures, you can play games and chat.  Click on “sparks” while you’re on your profile page and you can search for special interests and passions like comics, movies, sports and cooking recipes.  If you, your products and/or services get mentioned in regional, national or international newspapers or websites and you make the “sparks” section of Google Plus, you can “share” the news piece with everyone in your Google Plus social circle.

The URLs to the social networking sites mentioned in this article (and a few other social networking sites you can join and benefit from as a creative business leader) are listed below:
