4 Steps to Front Run as a Solopreneuer

Get Out Front and Enjoy Business Success as a Solopreneur

So you’re a solopreneur. Truth is more than a few small business owners are. The good news is that as a solopreneur you’re in charge of product or service development, marketing, sales, distribution, customer service and tax filing. Oh, and you’re also in charge of a simple thing called “cash flow.” The bad news? You’re in charge of product or service development, marketing, sales, distribution . . .”

But you can do it. You’re a born leader. To front run as a solopreneuer sit down and create a business plan. Key components to include in your business plan are an:

  • Executive Summary
  • Company Overview
  • Market Analysis
  • Organizational Structure
  • Financial Reports
  • Marketing and Sales Strategies

Conduct market analysis on the industry your business will operate in. Reach out to an experienced economist or market research firm if you don’t have prior experience conducting creative business market research. And why market research? It can give you a birds-eye view of how market segments are trending. You can also find out about prime brick and mortar spots for your business.

Design a Board of Directors for Your Creative Business Structure

Your creative business’ organizational structure should include the names, titles and work experience of your management team. But, I’m a solopreneur; my creative business doesn’t have an organizational structure, you say. It’s true you’re a solopreneur or sole proprietor. Howbeit, you can still set up a board of directors, people who will hold you accountable for achieving daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly business goals.

You can also front run as a solopreneur if you create a vision and try a new business marketing and promotions action step each week to create viral impact for your products. If a business marketing or promotion strategy doesn’t increase product sales, move on to another strategy.

Make a Big Deal about Your Successes

Believe it or not, not every marketing and promotion strategy experts cheerlead works for ever business. For example, if you’re a painter, attending brick and mortar arts shows might help you move more product than tweeting or encouraging Facebook users to “like” your creative business page will. You’re smart. Stick with what works for your business, but also keep trying new strategies.

Forget comparing your creative business to other businesses, even other businesses operated by solopreneurs. Stay focused on your business goals. Engage your board of directors and ask them for concrete advice when needed. Celebrate your successes. Take time to relax and actually enjoy life; imagine that.

Board of directors can make sure you do what you say you will when you say you will. Pick good directors or you’ll only have a cheerleading squad. You won’t directors who are going to make it their business to help you achieve your business goals, people who’ll tell you when it’s time for change.
