Finally Earn a Living with Your Internet Business

Online Profits are Being Realized for Creative Business Leaders

Just because there are more than two billion people accessing the Internet doesn’t mean if you start an online company millions, or thousands, of people will flock to purchase your products and services. The dot.com bust of the mid-1990s is proof of that. However, online profits are being realized. In fact, some Internet companies are raking in huge profits. Think Facebook, Google, Twitter, Amazon.com, Linkedin, Word Press, HubSpot and Phone Power for a start.

Earn a Living on the Internet

Some top Internet companies pulled in revenues that exceeded $20 million in 2010, a year when the United States economy continued to struggle. In its May 12, 2011 “Another Digital Gold Rush” article, The Economist reports that Linkedin went public on the New York Stock Exchange after generating $243 million in revenues in 2010, not bad for a company that launched in 2002 out of the living room of one of its co-founders, Reid Hoffmann.

Millions of People Access the Internet to Connect with Others

To achieve the success you’re targeting with your Internet business, there are several steps you can take. Providing content rich material to web users is one of those steps. Keep in mind that millions of people access the Internet to connect with family and friends, classmates and colleagues. People also access the Internet to see how the stock market is doing, search for jobs, find meal recipes, listen to music, watch movies, get directions to restaurants, etc.

Not everyone clicks onto the Internet to make a purchase. For this reason, you’ll have to meet people where they are then catch their eye. Some of the ways you can do this are:

  • Provide top notch products and services (consumers are very intelligent; give and share your best)
  • Price your products and services competitively (consider conducting market research to arrive at a good price for your Internet business products and services)
  • Attend trade shows and build relationships with other creative business leaders in your industry
  • Cold call event organizers and request to be included as a speaker at one or more upcoming events (highlight several specific benefits you’ll provide attendees)
  • Host and market your own conferences and seminars (include your Internet business URL on all handouts, materials, etc.)
  • Conduct online and offline radio interviews
  • Register with your local (and the national) Better Business Bureau
  • Create a weekly or monthly newsletter and distribute it to opt-in subscribers
  • Guest blog at major business and industry related websites
  • Include your Internet business URL on comments you make at other websites (be sincere and genuine)
  • Email other creative business leaders and request to exchange links with them (helps to increase your company’s search engine ranking)
  • Create social network (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, MySpace) accounts and stay active on the actives posting regularly

Your Internet Business Starts Generating Significant Revenues

It might take several years before your Internet business starts generating significant revenues. In fact, it took two to four years for some of the largest Internet businesses to take off. Work on building a community of supporters, repeat customers and knowledgeable clients for your Internet business every day. Measure the results of your efforts, because good work doesn’t take forever to start yielding positive results. Make changes where needed (accepting and causing change is an ongoing process of life, creative business leader or not) and continue to proceed through the many green lights in front of you.

Lots of start-up money helps. Several companies (although certainly not all) that are doing good right now have lots of funds to work with to launch new products, services and market and promote.
