Get your blogging off the ground

By Rhonda Campbell

It takes time (sometimes a lot of time) to succeed at blogging. Keeping blog content fresh requires you to write and publish one or more unique articles a day Monday through Friday at a minimum. That’s a lot of writing. Now you know why some successful bloggers write full-time.

You’ve gotta be you to realize blogging success

If you’re like most small business owners, you don’t have the time to commit to blogging, writing and publishing blog posts all day. You could hire a group of talented freelance writers to create and publish blogging content for you. Whichever process you follow, whether you write the content yourself or hire someone to write unique content for you, focus your blog content on the products and services your small business offers.

Also, submit each of your blog posts to social media networks like LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, ScoopIt and Pinterest. Submit your best blog posts to StumbleUpon and you could pull in hundreds, maybe even thousands, of visitors within a matter of hours.

Keep visitors wanting more of your blogging

To keep visitors coming back to your small business blog, publish guests articles and feature interviews from industry leaders. Ask these people to add the blog posts to their websites, helping you pull in even more visitors.

Highlight links that allow visitors to subscribe to your blog. Consider promoting these links at your social media networks.

Images do tell a story, keeping people from having to read through pages of text. Add thought provoking images to your blog posts. If you do, use a program that minimizes the image bandwidth, so the pictures don’t slow your blog’s downloading time.

Another way to keep your blog from downloading too slowly is to delete old comments. Also, get rid of spam comments.

Personalize your blogging. Say things in your own personal way. This can distinguish you from competitors. It’s what professional writers are taught – use your own voice. Another thing you’ll want to do is to update content on older blog posts. This can keep older posts from becoming stale or outdated. Achieve this and you could attract more visitors to your entire blog.
